General events We run stalls at events, selling cakes and plants and for many years have made Christmas wreaths to sell in the park each December.
Donations We donated £500 to the Friends of Colchester’s Roman Wall towards the cost of placing an interpretation board at Duncan’s Gate. Two trees (one to mark 10 years of FoCP) and provided a new bench in remembrance of service personal killed in action in Afghanistan.
Getting Together Coffee mornings are held most weeks from 10.30-12 on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesday . During the winter months held in the Rangers cabin. All are welcome. We arrange family picnics for members, who are also invited to our annual Christmas Party.
Activities We have a yearly Wildflower Walk, with an expert, to check on the progress of the flowers we planted earlier in the Wildflower Garden. Throughout the year members may be invited to help with general maintenance in the park.
Talks and Tours We have arranged talks about the park’s history and about it’s flora and fauna, and have visited other parks and Friends’ groups.
Applying for grants. FoCP have been successful in applying on behalf of the Borough Council for grants for cleaning the War Memorial. With the assistance of the CBC obtained an £8000 grant from Essex County Council towards the upgrade of the Helter Skelter and moving it to its new position.
Newsletter All members receive a Newsletter with key dates and developments and updates and observations from the Rangers on Castle Park matters.
Giving back Through all these activities, from humble cake baking and selling, to weeding and litter picking and raising funds for larger projects, we try to give back to the park the joy that it gives us.
